The Group, a loose association of independent companies, takes its name from its controlling investor: Realestate Financière Société Anonyme (RFSA). The company is based in Geneva, Switzerland and acts as the major investor in all the Group companies. The activities of the Group in Africa started in the early 1960s with operations in Nigeria and then Botswana, followed by Mauritius, Madagascar, South Africa, Mozambique and Namibia. The experience of the Group dates back to 1870 when G. Battista Giachetti founded one of the leading civil engineering and building companies in Italy – “Impresa Giachetti”. From those early times, the tradition has continued with the first large investment in Africa being the acquisition of a construction company in Nigeria in 1960. A number of other investments followed, leading up to the decision to invest in Botswana, Madagascar, South Africa, Mozambique and Namibia. The Group’s management team is organized by economic sector and controls the activities in each country through a matrix system.
