We are a cohort of 18 Batswana who are 2018 Mandela Washington Fellows (MWF). Briefly the MWF is a flagship leadership training progamme of the Young African Leaders Initiate (YALI) which was launched by former president of the United States (US) Gov-ernment Barack Obama in 2014. Essentially young African leaders who have a proven track record of leadership in their countries are selected for the programme. Fellows from Sub Saharan Africa are selected under three Tracks; Business and Entrepreneurship, Civic Leadership and Public Management and are placed in various Universities across the US for a period of six weeks (June to August). During the six weeks of the US training, we complete the academic coursework, network-ing and our leadership and management skills sharpened. Upon return to Botswana we are required to implement a community improvement project to further hone our skills. Bot-swana has been participating in the Fellowship since 2014.
